FAQs
TAXES & DUTIES
Am I responsible for paying taxes or customs duties?
Yes. Unless specifically stated otherwise, guests are responsible for all applicable taxes, import duties, and customs fees associated with their artwork delivery.
SHIPPING & DELIVERY
Can I select a specific delivery date or ask to delay my shipment?
While Fitzhugh's Fine Art at Sea cannot promise an exact delivery date, we are happy to work with you on delayed shipping arrangements if needed. Please reach out to Client Services at care@fitzhughsfineartatsea.com to make your request.
Do I need to sign for the delivery of my artwork?
Framed pieces require an adult signature (18+) upon delivery to ensure they arrive safely. Unframed works shipped in tubes do not require a signature. You'll receive an email when your order ships, with tracking info and signature requirements.
If I purchase multiple artworks, will they arrive together?
Not always. Framed items are individually packed and shipped separately for protection. Unframed pieces are typically grouped and rolled into a single shipping tube (up to 6 pieces per tube) to streamline delivery.
Which courier service is used to ship my artwork?
We ship using a mix of trusted carriers, including FedEx and TransGroup, depending on your location. For deliveries to mainland China, local courier services may be utilized.
Will I get notifications about my order and delivery?
Yes. You’ll receive email updates at each key stage—from confirmation to shipping and tracking. These will be sent to the email address provided at the time of purchase.
DAMAGED OR INCORRECT ARTWORK
My artwork or frame arrived damaged. What should I do?
We’re truly sorry for the inconvenience. You have 10 days from the delivery date to report any damages. Contact Client Services at care@fitzhughsatfineartatsea.com and include clear photos of the damage. We’ll arrange a complimentary pickup and promptly resolve the issue.
I received the wrong artwork. What now?
Our apologies! Please get in touch with Client Services at care@fitzhughsatfineartatsea.com or call +1 (754) 283 5164. We'll schedule a free return pickup and ensure the correct artwork is sent to you without delay.
APPRAISALS & VALUE
Can I get my artwork appraised?
Yes. Appraisals are available for purchase: $35 USD for the first piece and $15 USD for each additional. Our appraisals represent our internal estimate of replacement value based on condition, historical data, and gallery prices—not online listings or auction prices.
Can I request an updated or duplicate appraisal?
Yes. Email care@fitzhughsfineartatsea.com to request a new or updated appraisal. Appraisals generally arrive with the artwork, or within 6 weeks of delivery if sent separately.
Do you appraise art purchased from other galleries?
No. We currently only offer appraisals for artwork purchased through Fitzhugh’s Fine Art at Sea.
How do I know the value of my art?
Art values vary. For a precise valuation, we recommend purchasing an appraisal. See above for pricing and how we determine value.

Absolutely. Each artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, shipped with the piece. If yours is missing, contact Client Services at care@fitzhughsfineartatsea.com.
PAYMENT & CREDITS
Can I use a credit from a past return?
Yes. Eligible credits may be applied toward purchases made during onboard programs, regional or VIP land events, or by contacting our sales team. Credits expire 2 years from the date issued.
When will I be charged for my purchase?
Charges are applied at the time of purchase, whether using your onboard folio, credit card, or debit card.

FRAMING INFORMATION & CARE
Why choose Fitzhugh's Fine Art at Sea for framing?
Our scale allows us to offer premium custom framing options at competitive rates. Each frame is designed to enhance your artwork and suit a variety of décor styles.
What materials are used in your framing?
We use 100% acid-free matting, backing, and insulation to preserve the integrity of your artwork. Paper-based works are also protected by shatter-resistant acrylic, which filters UV rays and prevents damage from dust and touch.
Why is acrylic used instead of anti-glare glass?
Acrylic is safer for delicate artworks—it won’t shatter like glass, and it protects against UV light. Anti-glare glass can distort the image and risks tearing the art if broken.
Is hardware included with framed art?
Yes. All framed pieces arrive ready to hang with secure hardware installed. Heavier frames may use reinforced mounting hardware for added support.
Why isn’t canvas artwork covered with acrylic?
Canvas needs to “breathe” as it ages. Sealing it behind acrylic could affect its longevity, so we frame canvas pieces without enclosing them.
CARING FOR YOUR ARTWORK
How do I clean acrylic-covered artwork?
Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth slightly dampened with water. Avoid ammonia, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, which can scratch or cloud the acrylic.
How do I care for canvas art?
For light dusting, gently tap the surface and use a clean, soft cloth. For deep cleaning, consult a professional art conservator.
How should I clean metal artworks?
Use a clean microfiber cloth to dust. For fingerprints, gently wipe with diluted automotive cleaner. Never use polish or harsh chemicals, which could damage the surface coating.
How do I maintain bronze sculptures?
Bronze sculptures are coated with a protective wax. Clean them regularly with a mild, unscented soap and water mixture using a soft cloth. Avoid perfumed or abrasive products.
What’s the best way to clean acrylic sculptures?
Treat acrylic sculptures the same as acrylic-covered art. Use a soft cloth and plain water—never polish or touch painted areas, and avoid placing sculptures outdoors.
What lighting is best for displaying art?
LED lights are recommended due to low heat output and long life. Avoid placing artwork in direct sunlight or under fluorescent lights, which can cause irreversible fading or brittleness. Always position lighting at an angle to minimize heat and UV exposure. To test your lighting: place your hand between the art and the light. If you feel warmth, the light may be too strong.
