Pierre H. Matisse

Pierre H. Matisse born in1928 in Paris is a French-American artist renowned for his vibrant, emotionally expressive works that blend elements of Fauvism and modern abstraction. As the grandson of Henri Matisse and son of sculptor Jean Matisse, he was immersed in a rich artistic heritage from an early age. Pierre's artistic journey led him to Florida in the 1960s, where he became known as "The American Matisse, The Artist of Freedom and Love," a title reflecting his commitment to joy and creativity in his art. In 1997, he helped propel the archival cut-out technique, producing over 100 pieces as a tribute to his grandfather's legacy. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Pierre was a dedicated philanthropist, focusing on children's needs and contributing both art and financial support to various causes.
