Magnus Gjoen

Magnus Gjoen

Magnus Gjoen, born in London in 1979 and raised in Norway, is an artist renowned for his compelling reinterpretations of classical art. Drawing inspiration from his diverse European upbringing and a background in fine art and fashion design—including his work with Vivienne Westwood—Gjoen seamlessly merges street and pop influences with traditional fine art techniques. His work strikingly contrasts beauty and fragility, transforming powerful symbols such as weapons and skulls into delicate, porcelain-like forms. Gjoen’s pieces have been acquired by prominent institutions, including the Haifa Museum of Art and the Daimler Collection, and he has collaborated with the esteemed porcelain manufacturer Meissen and London's renowned Wallace Collection. Describing himself as an "accidental" artist, Gjoen's creations encourage viewers to explore the complex relationship between destruction and beauty, providing a contemporary twist on classical masterpieces.
